•July 10, 2007 • Leave a Comment Moussa Ag Assarid has written his book on the tone of the confidence and moreover by closing it, you’ll have the impression that it is to you ,personally ,closed to the fire, drinking the 3 traditional teas in the Tuareg custom, that you collected his secrets.
During his narrative ,he tells you his life ,before , and his life ,after …after what … A little gift which he received and which changed totally his life. By turning the pages of his book you will be captivated by his narrative, so much that every time you will say yourselves: ” still go some lines ,some pages ” and as in a breath of the wind of his desert, you will have turned all the pages and will close reluctantly his book . But close it, does not mean, don’t think about it ! When you take an elevator, you will not live this moment as every day, you will recover in the skin of Moussa to live this first one “ last great journey”, when the morning you will connect your dryer you will have a thought amused towards the big drama that Moussa lived and I am sure, you ‘ll close the tap while you’ll brush yourselves teeth !
As for the traffic jams, which in certain cities of France, we undergo, then, rather than to stamp saying: ” but, what does he do! He can’t move! the light is green ” you will think about the desert, the sky always blue and you will imagine yourselves driving with the slow rhythm of a camel
arrival at Gao ,south mali

” Please wait for the complete stop of the plane before untying your belts ” . Le microphone throws the usual call for calm down when a plane puts its wheels on tracks …but what tracks? Stuck ,on the portholes of the plane, the passengers, try to perceive the city of Gao and its international airport and there, yes, by looking well , a track : a tarmacq with the tint of the sand brought by the wind . An only secure vehicule and a big waved tole batiment , here is the International Airport of Gao !
The big warehouse is separated by an only partition . On one side “the departure” on the other one “the air terminal ”. The plane makes an only short stopover ; while we cross closed to the customs and the police, the passengers due to leave, climb on the plane.
Malian of any ethnic groups hang onto barriers in clusters . How to recognize somebody in this group of persons! But over there , I see two Tuareg who look like the pics that I had in my hand,. They probably are Ibrahim and Mossa . They are discussing with a young pretty girl . I saw her in the plane , she was sat nearby our seats. All the travel long , the nose plunged into some papers , she was working.
We catch only a glimpse drinving across Gao in Mossa’s 4X4 , he puts down us in front of the” sahara passion” . We shall be the only “WHITE” in this hotel for our few hours-stop . Mossa, is the cousin of a friend, a Tuareg writer, who lives in France, and he ‘ll be our guide for this short stay.
He says to us that our friend is already arrived with ” the caravan of the heart ” humanitarian aid which has come back to mali, crossed several countries of the North of Africa
The group of friends is in a small village,”Taboye” lost in the North of Mali . Mossa (our guide) also says that Moussa (the writer) is in Gao and will come and see us in the afternoon.
Meanwhile we shall take our lunch , in this latitude at 3 pm!
A light breeze blows and the foliages rustles and murmurs .
Sit in the shaded garden of the ” Sahara passion ” . we wait, my son Arnaud and I , our first typically Malian meal. Today it will be couscous . what a couscous! Memorable ! some seeds, two tiny bit of meat and some chickpeas… There it no problem we are not in one of these package tours where French come for stuff itselves with sun and exotic meals.
Over there the Muezzin has just appealed to the prayer while everything around us, some birds make a competition of the most beautiful trill. On the wall of banco (the sand used for the construction) lizards of beautiful sizes consider at us amazed, unless they are intrigued and we , are amazed
